Technical Outline for Introductory Speech (follow this outline format)     Title –  Presented by –  Date –     I. Introduction (must include the following sections):  (Suggest 15-30 seconds delivery time for this section)    A. Greeting (State the following; “Good morning, Good afternoon, or Good evening.”  recognizing the instructor by his title (Dr. (not Doctor), any important guest(s), and your “fellow classmates.” Then state your name).     B. Attention Getter (Ask an opening question or make a relevant provocative statement to       get the attention of the audience (e.g., How would you like to meet a very famous       person?)).                 C. Statement of purpose (State your purpose, which is “to introduce” someone. (You       don’t have to state the person’s name just yet; maybe just something interesting about       him or her; saving the name for the formal introduction at the end of the       speech). It’s up to you.    D. Personal interest statement (Provide a short statement explaining why you selected       this person. This creates a connection between you, the person you are introducing,       and hopefully the audience. The pronouns I, me or my should be used at least twice in        this section).     II. Body (must include the following sections): (Suggest 90 seconds delivery time for this section)   A. You need a short title here (i.e., Background, Childhood, Beginnings, etc. )  Then you are going to want to begin this section, and the other sections (B, C) using a transitional phrase, for example, I would like to start by first talking about _____ childhood.”        1. State your primary topic point (I suggest you talk about the person’s childhood, background, etc.).                   2.   Provide a subordinate or support sentence of the primary topic point.                  3.   Another support sentence, if needed.     Note: No reference citations are necessary in the delivery of this introductory speech, just on the outline.    B. You need a short title here (i.e., Education, Experiences, etc. ) Again, you are going to want to begin this section, and the other sections (A,C) using a transitional phrase, for example, I would like to now say something about _____       education.”     1. State your second topic point 2. Provide a subordinate or support sentence of the second topic point.                  3.   Another support sentence if necessary.    Note: Again, no reference citations are necessary in the delivery of the speech, just on the outline.    C. You need a short title here (i.e., Achievements, Accomplishments, etc. ) Begin this section using a transitional phrase, for example, I would like to now say something about ____ accomplishments.”    1. State your third topic point  2. Provide a subordinate or support sentence of the third topic point.                  3.   Another support sentence if necessary.      III. Conclusion (Suggest 15-30 seconds delivery time for this section) A. Summarize your three main points (Do not repeat the entire contents of the Body. Just    a brief summary).     B. Now make your formal introduction. I suggest you say “Without any further ado  (delay, hesitation, commotion, etc.) it is my great pleasure and honor to introduce _________________.” (Be sure to use the person’s title (i.e., Dr. Mr., Mrs. Ms, etc.).    C. Conclude your introduction by simply saying “Thank You!”  (Do not add any additional comments. If you were doing this speech for real, your “Thank you” would likely get buried in the applause being given to the person you just introduced. For this class, however, I need to hear you thank the audience, to know that you have fully complied with the assignment, and to show that you are an “audience-centered speaker.”     Works Cited: (Author’s name, title, publication and date of publication (not date retrieved).
