The Oklahoma City bombing of 199 was the closestexperience the American society had experienced, in which the death toll rose to about 150citizens in the blast. However, the death toll in the Oklahoma bombing paled compared to the3000 people that had lost their lives in the New York attack, which could explain the extensivemeasures taken by the government in response to the attack, and in an effort to reduce thechances of a similar future occurrence. The tactics and magnitude of the New York disasterformed the primary impetus for the American change in approach on protecting its citizens.The formation of the Department of Homeland Security was one of the most vividdevelopments immediately following the attacks on the twin towers in New York.
