Week 7 Discussion
COLLAPSE
Resistance to Change
Note: For the Discussion this week and next week, we come together once again as a full class. The Application for this week will tap into your team-based learning.
Weimer identifies a real problem that you may have encountered in your practice: In institutions where students are not expected to be engaged or take responsibility for their learning, they will often resist and respond negatively to new teaching strategies.
By Day 3:
Post your perspectives on how you would approach resistance from your students, your colleagues, and administration, addressing the following questions:
How would you set the stage for active learning in the classroom at your first class?
How would you respond to a student who says, “I prefer just taking notes”?
How would you approach colleagues who disagree with your teaching strategies?
What research or resources would you share to explain and promote your new approach to learning and teaching?
