Theauthors acknowledged that in all the three nations, domestic terrorism pose a great threat tonational security, and their effects have been felt far and wide. The authors relied on data fromthe Global Terrorism Database, to identify incidences of terrorism in the three countries, as wellas their characteristics. From this database, data on incidences of domestic terrorism in each ofthe three countries between 1970 and 2013 was collected. Incidences where: targets were foreignnationals, perpetrators were foreigners, and those that begun in a different country and wasconcluded in one of the three nations were also eliminated.The study found out that domestic terrorists in the United States differ significantly fromthose in the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
