Title: Seed GerminationAbstractSeed GerminationFive experiments were carried out to examine the effects of various factors ongermination, rates of germination and seed viability. The experiments tested the germinationrates and percentages, effects of microwaves on seed viability, early seeding growth anddevelopment, light and seed germination and the effect of light on seedling growth anddevelopment. For the first experiment, the hypothesis was that Seeds can germinate or growwithout light. Lettuce seeds were soaked in water and paced in a petri dish in a dark cabinet. Theseeds were able to germinate without light, agreeing with the hypothesis that seeds can germinatewithout light. The second experiments hypothesis was that microwaves affect the germinationof seeds either by slowing or preventing germination. The experiment involved exposing seeds tomicrowaves for 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 seconds. The results indicates that seeds exposed for lessthan 15 seconds germinate while those exposed for more than 30 seconds did not germinate.Hence, microwaves affect inhibit seed germination when exposed beyond a certain time. The hypothesis of the third experiment was that seeds grow differently in comparison toeach other. Three different species of seeds were placed in two pots and placed in the light.Sunflower seeds germinate underground while pea and corn seeds germinated above the ground. The conclusion agreed with the hypothesis that seeds germinate differently wit ...
